Sydney McCall and her sister Katherine are organising an event to allow people adopt some of the kitties they have at the Friendly Paws animal shelter that they own. But everything goes south when the diva that has to promote the event dies during the event, and it seems that someone has killed her! Of course Syd loves to investigate, and she has some personal reasons to discover the truth, one of her best friends could have had a motive!
'I walked into the kitchen and stopped dead when I saw the body, lying squarely in the middle of the floor. "Darn it!" I cried. "Not another one!!"'
This had been a cute case, full of fluffy cats and handsome detectives, we should have more of both in our lives, maybe they would be more interesting! ;)
Of course the case is interesting too, but it was easy to discover how the presume murder was done, the part that was more absorbing was discovering all the subplots around the diva and her need do be always the centre, I am sure this case will get you an interesting inside of the tv backdoor. And let me say that Syd has a little kitty help with the case!
This book has been a quick read, easy to be inside the plot and love the main characters since the beginning, but I am quite worried of the poor cats of the shelter, if there were more killing near them they will need to make therapy, for sure.
I was a little bit down with the part of Syd's life, she has a lot of good friends, but her "boyfriend" and detective seems more like an invisible friend than someone real. I hope we will see more of them together in the next book, Syd needs someone to trust and confide in her life, don't you think?
This is the second book of the "A Cat Rescue Mystery series, but you can read it as standalone.

My Top Five Favorite Books!
Everyone has a list of their favorite books – I’m no exception. While I confess to loving the mystery
genre, and most of my reading is in this area, I think you might be surprised at a few of my choices
So here goes:
- Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell: The epic love story of Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler is numero uno with me! I always identified with the feisty spirit of Scarlett and wanted to bop her over the head when she clung to Ashley like a spoiled child. She realized her mistake in the end, but by then hunky Butler “didn’t’ give a damn” which by today’s standards is a mild statement LOL. Now if I’m being perfectly honest, this book is tied for #1 with #1: The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough: Okay, okay, I might never have known about this book if not for the tv movie with Richard Chamberlain but once I saw the movie I HAD to read the book, and I am so glad I did. The book truly gives more insight into the characters of the wishy-washy Father Ralph and the fieisty Meggie, even more so than the teleseries. If I were stranded on a desert island, it would be a hard choice as to which of my numero uno choices I’d like to have with me!
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott: I think this was probably the first book over 200 pages that I read as a child. I always wanted to be Jo, the author! Never Amy or Meg. A true classic in every sense of the word.
- Secret in the Old Attic by Carolyn Keene: this was the very first Nancy Drew mystery I ever read (thank the skeleton in the closet on the cover) and the reason I got hooked on mysteries in general. Nancy and I have had a love affair for over 40 years. While she is not the only series book heroine whose adventures I’ve devoured, she’s the one who made the strongest impression. The girl never missed a clue and her hair was always perfect!
- Jack and Jill by James Patterson: one of my favorite suspense authors, this was my introduction to Patterson’s no nonsense style of ‘ratchet up the suspense, drop a bomb, and then drop another’. I devoured this as well as all of his Alex Cross novels. Love this man!!!!!
- Naked in Death by JD Robb: Actually all of JD Robb’s should be on this list! I started with #1, Naked in Death, and I’ve progessed all the way up to the latest, Brotherhood in Death. I’m looking forward to many more from this author! Eve Dallas is unstoppable – and who wouldn’t want to be married to Roarke?
I’ve also got to give honorable mention to:
- 1: Any thing by Ann Rule: she was the undisputed queen of true crime fiction, in my estimation!
- 2: Candice Bergen’s two autobiographies: Love me some Murphy Brown! Enough Said.
- 3: Salem’s Lot by Stephen King: and not just because I love vampires! This was the very first book of King’s that I ever read and it made me a fan for life! (Of King’s – I was already a fan of vampires thanks to Dark Shadows)
- 4: Pet Sematery by Stephen King: While it’s true I cannot watch a movie or a tv show or a commercial that shows an animal dying or in distress, for some reason I had no problem devouring this book wherein a cat is run over and then comes back to life – albeit a little more “zombie-ish” than before. One of my favorite SK books, and I have a LOT of them.
- 5: Loves Music, Loves to Dance by Mary Higgins Clark: the very first MHC book I ever read, and certainly not the last. MHC certainly deserves the title “Queen of Suspense” because she is a past master at dragging it out.
- 6: Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi: I’m a lover of true crime and I’ve got to confess that I’ve always found the Charles Manson case fascinating. This one had to be on my list of favorites!
